Exposure to the climate, especially harsh conditions, influence the performance of electronics, and is a growing issue today for automotive electronic, power electronic, and consumer electronic devices. This is due to a combination of device related factors and exposed climatic conditions. Humidity and temperature variations causing transient buildup of high humidity and condensing conditions on the PCBA surface for example can introduce intermittent malfunctions and permanent failures.

This webinar will focus on explaining how the climate influences on the functionality of electronics in different ways from a generalized point of view, and discuss some of the mitigation measures.

Rajan Ambat who is professor in Corrosion and Surface Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, DTU

For 13 years he has been Manager at the Center for Electronic Corrosion and CreCon Industrial Consortium for Climatically Reliable Electronics. The CELCORR group works on all aspects of humidity effects on electronics, which leads to electrochemical failure modes and focuses on measures to improve humidity robustness such as Prevention, Protection, and Prediction. A whole range of research activities and knowledge base under CELCORR are open to industry through membership in the “CreCon consortium”.
